Tours Scheduled for restored Cathedral

Tours of the recently reopened Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield will be given at 10:15 a.m. on Saturdays. The 81-year-old Cathedral, an architectural landmark on the southern edge of downtown Springfield, re-opened Dec. 2 after a 15-month restoration project.

Trained volunteers will conduct the free tours, pointing out architectural as well as religious significance for some of the appointments in the Cathedral’s worship space and new adjoining atrium. The Cathedral is the Mother Church for over 150,000 registered Catholics in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, which stretches from Indiana to Missouri, and includes 28 counties.

To inquire about a tour at a different time, contact the Cathedral office at (217) 522-3342.
