With hundreds of people gathered around the steps of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Archbishop George J. Lucas prays just moments before he and all those gathered process into the restored church.

Father Peter Harman, pastor of Cathedral Parish, lights a candle near the church entrance. Four places in the church are marked with a cross and bear a lighted candle on festive days to be an image of the holy city of Jerusalem.

Hundreds of parishioners, guests and priests process forward to receive Holy Communion under both species.

The diocesan choir, led by Nichol DelGiorno, provides the music for the Dec. 2 liturgy.
