He was born in Clinton on Sept. 21, 1941, the son of the late Paul E. and Ruth Walters Long. He married Diane Eastham on June 3, 1960 in Clinton. He was a member of First Christian Church in Clinton.

Surviving are his wife, Diane Long; two sons, Father Long, parochial vicar at Our Saviour Parish in Jacksonville, and Russell Long of Clinton; and one daughter, Debbie Reynolds of Clinton; five grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Feb. 1 at the Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, with Father Long and J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton.
