He was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Chicago, the son of George and Agnes Dettloff Kromenaker. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 8, 1947.

Father Kromenaker was ordained a priest on June 8, 1947. He was assigned as assistant pastor at Blessed Sacrament, Springfield, in 1947 and became a teacher/chaplain of Springfield Junior College and Ursuline Academy in 1948. He was assigned as assistant pastor at Our Savior, Jacksonville, in 1949; St. Mary, Alton, in 1952; St. Francis Cabrini, Springfield in 1954; and Cathedral in Springfield in 1956. He was assigned as pastor at St. Anne, Edgewood, 1958; Visitation BVM, Alexander, 1966, and Sacred Heart, Villa Grove, 1968. He served as parochial administrator at St. Aloysius, Litchfield in 1969. He served as professor of education at Illinois State University, Normal, beginning in 1972. He received his master’s degree and Ph.D. He was head librarian at DeLaSalle High School, Chicago, beginning in 1978; Mendel High School, Chicago, in 1981; Mt. Carmel High School, Chicago, in 1990; and Leo Catholic High School, Chicago, in 1992. He retired from active ministry in 1997.

Father Kromenaker was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret O’Malley and Marie Parker. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A visitation and Mass were held on May 14 at St. John Vianney in Sherman. A second visitation and Mass were held May 17 at St. Ferdinand Church in Chicago. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.
