HSHS, four hospitals honored with environmental practices awards

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) and four of its hospitals recently were honored with environmental awards from Practice Greenhealth at the Environmental Excellence Summit held May 12 in Baltimore.

HSHS, sponsored by the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis with headquarters near Springfield, was awarded the System for Change Award. The system includes 13 hospitals across Illinois and Wisconsin. The award recognizes health care systems working cohesively to gather data, set system goals, benchmark, and share successes in environmental performance.

St. John’s Hospital in Springfield was granted the Partner for Change Award, recognizing healthcare facilities that have begun to work on environmental improvements and have less than 10 percent recycling rate for their total waste stream.

Also honored at the summit were St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, Wis.; St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.; and St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wis.
