Secular Franciscans celebrate jubilees

Five members were honored for 50 years in the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi. They are: Frank Coens, Marianne Crocker, Vera Gengenbacher, Inez Neuser and Rita Steinkamp. Two members, Mary Demers and Julie Regner, were honored for 25 years in the Order.

The ceremony took place during 11 a.m. Sunday Mass and included several individuals who are close to the honorees. The celebrant was Father Frank Coens, OFM, of Monroe, La., who is the son of Frank Coens. Serving as deacons were Deacon Bob Gengenbacher of Ft. Madison, Iowa, son of Vera Gengenbacher; Deacon Bill Neuser, of Quincy, son of Inez Neuser; and Deacon David Ream, of Kirksville, Mo., who is spiritual assistant to the fraternity. Phyllis Maxwell, the St. Elizabeth Fraternity minister, gave the introduction.

Following Mass, 45 Secular Franciscan members and 30 family guests attended a luncheon in the parish school.
