FENTON, Mo. — Father William Overmann, 74, retired priest of the Springfield diocese, died Sept. 19, at Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis.

A native of St. Louis, he was the son of the late Henry Francis and Estelle Marie (Fechter) Overmann. He entered La Salette Seminary in 1949 and was ordained a priest in 1962. For the next 48 years he served in many parishes in Iowa, Michigan, Louisiana and Illinois, first as a Missionary of Our Lady of La Salette and, since 1986, as a priest in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.

Father Overmann is survived by two sisters, Rosemarie Merchant and Carolyn Southard; two brothers, Mark Overmann and Richard Overmann; one aunt, Lorraine Birkemeier; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Church, Robinson, from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 and on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9:30-10:15 a.m., with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Also, visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at the Jay B. Smith Fenton Chapel in Fenton, Mo. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Fenton. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis.
