What’s Thanksgiving without a turkey?

What would Thanksgiving dinner be without turkey? That’s why both St. John’s Breadline and Holy Family Pantry are in need of turkeys for the upcoming holiday.

St. John’s Breadline (at 430 N. Fifth St. in Springfield) will serve an estimated 600 individuals a traditional Thanksgiving meal this year while the food pantry (at 1023 E. Washington St.) will give away over 450 Thanksgiving baskets.

“We are in dire need of turkeys this year,” said Janet Nelson, supervisor of Holy Family Food Pantry. As of late October, Nelson said virtually no turkeys had been donated to be kept in the pantry’s freezer for Thanksgiving. She added that she was already taking donations of hams for Christmas.

To donate a turkey to the breadline, call Kevin Kindred at (217) 528-6098. For food, turkey and ham donations for the food pantry, call Janet Nelson at (217) 523-2450.
