Kuban, a St. Louis native, is best known for his 1966 #12 Pop hit, The Cheater and is honored in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had two other top 100 hits — The Teaser peaked at #70 and a remake of the song Drive My Car went to #93 — but he remained a fixture on the St. Louis music scene for decades.
In a recent interview on WSOY AM RADIO, Kuban recalled playing in Decatur and says he “looks forward to coming to the Soy City for a great set.”
The gala will occupy all three levels of the Decatur Club. Kuban and his band will perform at 8 p.m. on the Ballroom Floor for couples to enjoy the music and dance.
The second floor will feature the jazz sounds of the Michael Sherer Jazz Combo with food stations of pasta and tenderloin. The Sugar Prophets will provide a Memphis blues feel on the third floor with more food stations featuring a southern flair.
The annual fund-raiser of Catholic Charities funds 10 vital services provided to the community, including services for the elderly such as meals-on-wheels, Medassist, elderly care options and elderly guardianship, according to Catholic Charities’ area director Marie Rademacher. Catholic Charities also provides food and clothing assistance to families and offers individual, couples, and family counseling.
Rademacher stresses Catholic Charities welcomes and serves all faiths and she encourages anyone interested in helping the community to attend.
“This fund-raiser helps us keep these programs solvent and offer protection and help to the most vulnerable in our community the poor and elderly,” Rademacher said.
Tickets are $100 per person ($200 per couple). Tables of 10, if purchased together, are available for $85 per person.
For information, invitations or reservations, contact Rademacher at the Decatur Catholic Charities office at (217) 428-3458, ext. 224. Or call board member Sue Breheny at (217) 877-2505.
