The theme of the event, hosted this year by the women of the Effingham Deanery, is "Rejoice and Renew." The day runs from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m., costs $45 and includes lunch. Clergy and religious can attend with just a $20 fee.
"The day will be prayerful, informative and enjoyable," says Martha Fearday, who is publicity chair for the event. She adds that Carolyn King, the keynote speaker, is a noted Catholic inspirational speaker and teacher.
At the peak of her successful business career as an investment consultant, King was featured in the Wall Street Journal and was interviewed on Tom Brokaw's NBC Nightly News in a story about women who successfully balanced family and careers. She is also featured on a three CD set called From Wall Street to Rome, which tells how King, a convert, made the journey from successful businesswoman to embracing the truths of Catholicism.
King began her speaking ministry in 2001 with St. Joseph's Communications, and served as a CCD teacher and taught in a Catholic woman's prayer group in her own diocese for four years. In 2004 she was a guest on EWTN's The Journey Home. She is deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother, the sacraments and the saints.
After hearing King speak, attendees will be asked to participate in break-out sessions, followed by 11 a.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas John Paprocki. Music will be provided by Kim Deters and the St. Anthony High School Choir. Eric Thompson and Val Probst will sing a meditation.
During lunch, the winners of the 2011 DCCW scholarship will be recognized and receive their cash awards. This year's recipients are Katie Lynn Bruntjen of St. Raymond Parish, Raymond; Danielle Joann Krabbe, Holy Family Parish, Litchfield; Michelle Meloche, St. Jerome Parish, Troy; and Claire Murphy Watson, St. James Parish, Riverton. Their parents are also invited to attend.
Additionally, the day will include a performance by The Church Basement Ladies from Sigel, a comedy group that is "sure to tickle your funny bone," says Betty Boos, president of the Effingham Deanery.
Joyce Knodle, who is in charge of this year's registration, says she hopes at least 150 women will attend, but of course, as many who want to come are welcome. For questions or a registration form, contact your parish ladies' sodality president or Joyce Knodle at (217) 538-2085 or e-mail .
