Day of Spirituality slated at Decatur parish, Nov. 19

DECATUR — Holy Family Parish in Decatur will hold a Day of Spirituality on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $10, which covers a catered lunch from La Gondola.

 

Father Tom McCarthy, OSA, an Augustinian friar, will lead the Day of Spirituality. A native of the south side of Chicago, Father Tom grew up in St. Adrian Parish in Marquette Park, where he attended the parish grade school, and then went on to St. Rita of Cascia High School.

He earned his bachelor's degree in communication arts from Villanova University, and his masters in educational administration from Lewis University.

He entered the Midwest Province of the Augustinian Order in 1987, and after completing his novitiate, he attended the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree. In 1993 he made his solemn vows as an Augustinian Friar, and in 1994 he was ordained to the priesthood.

After serving a pastoral internship at St. Clare of Montefalco Parish, in Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., he taught theology at Providence Catholic High School, in New Lenox. In 1994 he moved on to St. Rita of Cascia High School, first as a campus minister and later as a teacher, and now serves as president and principal of St. Rita's, while also serving as vocation director for the Midwest Augustinian Province.
