The goal of the event is to recognize the contributions of all the good and holy women in the diocese by honoring the work of one woman from each parish council. This type of recognition has been a popular event in dioceses across the country.

Parishes are free to determine how to select their honoree using the general criteria that the chosen woman must actively live her Catholic faith. She should display her spirituality and share her time and talents in acts of service to her parish and her community. She should also demonstrate the mission of the NCCW to support, empower and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service.

Information and registration forms were mailed to all parishes in early December. The deadline for naming a Woman of Distinction and for registration for the luncheon is March 10.
