Presentation to explain church teaching on immigration

A presentation on the Catholic position on immigration will take place on Wednesday, March 14 in the St. Frances Cabrini Parish Center, 1020 N. Milton Ave. in Springfield. The Lenten evening will begin with a soup supper at 6 p.m. followed by prayer, a presentation on what the church teaches on immigration, a personal account of immigration and a roundtable dialogue.

The evening's presentation will explain how Scriptures and Catholic teaching help Catholics look at immigration. The Catholic position on immigration is based on Scripture, Catholic social teaching, statements and encyclicals of the popes, and statements and pastoral letters of bishops around the world, including the United States Bishops.

The evening will also include Alejandro Trujillo and Ana Manriquez, a married couple and members of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, sharing their story about their immigration to the United States.

The evening is offered by St. Frances Cabrini Church in partnership with Faith Coalition for the Common Good and Pax Christi, Springfield. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Madonna Jones at or call (217) 741-0193.
