St. Anthony all-choir concert to be released on CD

Written by

EFFINGHAM — More than a half-dozen choirs from St. Anthony Parish in Effingham will be featured in an All Choirs Concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 in St. Anthony Church, 101 E. Virginia Ave.

Featured will be more than 200 voices and musicians of St. Anthony's music ministry which include the St. Anthony's Adult Choir, Men's Choir, Funeral Choir, St. Cecilia Guitar Group, the Pueri Cantores Choir, the Intermediate Choir, the Junior High Bells Choir and the St. Anthony's Bell Choir.

The All Choirs Concert will be recorded live on a two-CD set titled Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord.

"We're working with a company from Minnesota called Legacy Productions that helps schools and churches raise funds through producing and selling CDs," says Barb Konrad, parish music director. "I've worked with them before and it really is the easiest thing to do."

An additional concert, held Sunday, April 29, will feature the St. Anthony Junior High Chorus, St. Anthony High School Chorus and St. Anthony Junior High Bells Choir. Selections from those concerts will be pre-recorded and will also be featured on the CD set. "We're thinking that there will be at least 30 songs on the CDs, maybe 40," Konrad says.

Pre-orders are being accepted for the CD set. Interested individuals can contact the St. Anthony parish office at (217) 347-7129. The price is $25 and the CDs will be delivered in May.

"You know, musicians always need things that might not be put into the budget of a parish — and we understand that," Konrad says. "That's why the proceeds will go to benefit St. Anthony Parish's music ministry.

"However, the primary goal is really to celebrate the music of the choirs. There are so many people who join the different choirs to have a way to express themselves musically. We want to feature music that the choirs feel uplifted by and sing well. We're very excited about it."
