Father von Behren inducted into SHG Hall of Fame


father-von-behren-coFather Thomas von Behren, CSV, provincial superior of the Clerics of St. Viator, was inducted into the Sacred Heart-Griffin High School Hall of Fame on May 20 during the graduation ceremony for the SHG Class of 2012.

A 1971 graduate of Griffin High School, Father von Behren was recognized "for the exemplary way in which he has integrated the mission of SHG into his life." He made his first vows as a Viatorian in 1978, and in 1983 was ordained to the priesthood and celebrated his first Mass in his home parish, Blessed Sacrament in Springfield.

Father von Behren earned his bachelor's degree from Loyola University in Chicago, his Master of Divinity degree from the Catholic Theological Union, and later earned a master's degree in education from the University of San Francisco.

He served on the faculty of the former Griffin High School. He was president of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas and president of St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights. He has founded and directed outreach programs and hospice centers for retired members of the Viatorian community; served as Viatorian vocations director, and designed and directed the first house of discernment in the United States for men considering religious life as a priest or brother in the Clerics of St. Viator.

Father von Behren has served as the Victorians' elected provincial superior since 2005.

The SHG Hall of Fame was established in 1995 to recognize graduates of Sacred Heart Academy, Cathedral Boys High School or Griffin High School.
