Training offered for ‘Theology of the Body for Teens’

A training session on "Theology of the Body for Teens" for adult leaders of teen groups will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel, 4191 US 36 West in Decatur.

The training session is sponsored by the diocesan Office for Catechesis as a pre-conference opportunity the day before the opening of the biennial Diocesan Adult Enrichment Conference (DAEC), Nov. 4-5, also at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel.

Theology of the Body is Pope John Paul II's integrated philosophy of the human person. He revealed this vision of the human person during a series of Wednesday audiences given between 1979 and 1984. His scriptural reflections then applied his message to the vocations of marriage and celibacy, in preparation for the kingdom of heaven.

"Theology of the Body for Teens" is designed to bring the pope's vision to teens and pre-teens in Catholic schools, parish youth ministries, religious education, confirmation and home schooling settings.

Facilitator for the program will be Colin MacIver, who teaches theology and serves as the religion department chair and campus ministry coordinator at St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, La. He has extensive experience teaching the Theology of the Body for Teens: High School Edition and is co-author of the Middle School Edition.

Teachers, clergy, catechists, youth ministers, campus ministers and anyone who works with teens are invited to attend.

Registration for the program is $50 before Oct. 19 and $60 after that date. Interested persons can register or download a registration form at www.dio.org/youthministry. For more information, contact Kyle Holtgrave, associate director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries at (217) 698-8500, ext. 154 or e-mail .
