Nine to be inducted into K. of C. Chapter Hall of Fame

Nine members of Knights of Columbus councils in the Springfield diocese will be inducted into the Springfield Diocesan Chapter Hall of Fame at the 2012 induction ceremony and banquet on Oct. 20.

This year's event will be hosted by Jerseyville Council 1692 in Jerseyville. The ceremony will begin at the regular parish Mass at 4:30 p.m. at St. Francis Church, with cocktail hour immediately after in the parish hall. A catered dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with introductions of Hall of Fame recipients starting around 7 p.m.

Members of the 2012 Hall of Fame class are: Father Joseph Carlos, OFM, of Council 2874 in Teutopolis; John Szerletich of Council 14024 in Sherman; Albert Treichel of Council 460 in Alton; James Peters of Council 4372 in New Berlin; Walter Jones of Council 13216 in Glen Carbon; Jerry Daniels of Council 4175 in Springfield; Darrel Cocagne of Council 2120 in Taylorville; Nicholas Althoff of Council 665 in Effingham; and Charlie Mann of Council 4179 in Springfield.

Over 150 men have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1984.

Also during the banquet the chapter will present a check for $12,500 to be distributed to the 25 seminarians currently studying for the diocesan priesthood. Father Christopher House, director of the Office for Vocations, will accept the check on behalf of Bishop Thomas John Paprocki.

The mission of the Springfield Diocese K. of C. Chapter is to support seminarians with prayers and financial help; promote the annual Hall of Fame induction of men of the order qualified by their exemplary efforts for church, councils, communities and family participation; and meet the prescribed goals of the state and supreme councils.
