Parish concert commemorates Vatican II

On Sunday, Nov. 18, St. Joseph Parish in Springfield will host a musical concert in celebration of the recent 50th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. in the church at 1345 N. Sixth St.

The concert, entitled "Let the River Run" is a good way to celebrate, says Paul Johnson, director of music at St. Joseph. "There has been much growth over these 50 years, especially with regards to the music which enriches our prayers and liturgies," he says.

"There is much to draw from and one good way to celebrate the journey we have traveled and the growth and maturity of the music and musicians" is to perform the music, he adds. The upcoming concert will feature some early pieces "as well as that river of music, which has become a part of our lives" including the works of Ray Repp, the Dameans, St. Louis Jesuits, Peter Scholtes and others.

Everyone is welcome to the concert, which is free and open to the public.
