Dominican associates complete Pastoral Training program

SHELBYVILLE — The Dominican Associates of Immaculate Conception in Shelbyville have just completed a five-week Pastoral Ministry Training Program. Each Monday, Mary Handly, recently retired chaplain of St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, presented informative and reflective programs covering a wide range of topics, said Jane Rood, one of the participants.

Topics were: Loss of Loved Ones: Coping and Growing through Grief; Loss by Miscarriage, Stillbirth and Newborn Death; Alzheimer's Victims and their Caregivers; and Domestic Violence Victims and Resources for Help.

Those participating in the program were Rood, Cathy Clark, Jean Schodtler, George and Gabriella Menard, Virginia Dauz, Barb Hillyer, Marilyn Cichalewski, Marilyn Hamparzomian, Cyndi Crain, Charlotte Wafford, Robert Engelhart, and Deacon John O'Brien.

The eight Dominican Associates and four parishioners participating in the program agreed that they gained much enlightenment and understanding that will better enable them to minister to others in need, Rood said. "This was a great beginning to our Year of Faith journey," she said.
