DECATUR — Despite cooler than normal temperatures for early June and intermittent bouts of drizzling, then pouring rain, some 350 Catholics took part in the Corpus Christi procession June 2 from St. Patrick Church to Water Street Park.
Father Nicholas Husain, director of mission integration and spirituality at St. Mary's Hospital, carried the Blessed Sacrament in the procession and was principal celebrant for the Liturgy of the Word at the park. Deacon Kevin Richardson and Father John Burnett accompanied Father Husain in the procession.
After the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick that morning, exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was held until 3 p.m., when the faithful processed out the front door of St. Patrick and made their way through the city streets to Water Street Park. A drum cadence marked the pace and incense was burned as the procession made its way to the park.
"It was a good experience for everyone, and a way to witness our faith," said Father Burnett, pastor of Ss. James and Patrick.
