VIRDEN — Deacon Frank Maynerich Jr., 60, died Aug. 13 from injuries received in an accident on Farmersville Road. The accident also took the life of his 19-year-old son, Paul.
Deacon Maynerich was born Sept. 29, 1952, in Springfield, a son of Frank Sr. and the late Agnes (Morelock) Maynerich. He married Denise Nicolette "Nickie" Hein on Aug. 18, 1973, in Virden. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2012.
Deacon Maynerich was ordained to the diaconate on June 20, 2009. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Virden and was assigned to minister at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Chatham. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2321 and Fourth Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus, Gillespie.
Deacon Maynerich worked as a financial advisor for Investment Centers of America, Maynerich Financial.
Surviving are his father, Frank Maynerich Sr. of Thayer; sons, Mark J. (Laci) Maynerich and John M. (Margo) Maynerich of Springfield, Luke N. Maynerich of Chatham, and Matthew A. (Amanda) Maynerich of Virden; daughters, Sarah N. (Lucas) Pierce and Rachel A. (Matthieu Sexton) Maynerich of Virden; brothers, Joseph L. Maynerich of Thayer, George Maynerich of Decatur, and Greg Maynerich (Debbie) of Auburn; sisters, Patricia A. Allen of Thayer and Theresa (Chuck) Sharp of Auburn; eight grandchildren; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The combined funeral Mass for Deacon Maynerich and his son, Paul, was Aug. 17 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Chatham, Father George Morelock presiding. Burial was in Virden Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Chatham and to Sacred Heart Church in Virden.
Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, was in charge of arrangements.
