Local business leader inducted into SHG Hall of Fame

On Sunday, May 25, at the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2014, the Sacred Heart-Griffin High School community inducted John Eck Jr. into the SHG Hall of Fame for the exemplary ways in which he has integrated the mission of SHG into his life.

Eck is a lifelong resident of Springfield. He graduated from Griffin High School in 1984 and Marquette University in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in finance.

Eck is currently vice president and treasurer of R.W. Troxell & Company. He is involved in numerous activities to benefit the Springfield community, ranging from the Chamber of Commerce to local Catholic schools.

Eck has undertaken leadership roles with the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, having served as the chair of the finance and audit committee, the fundraising committee, as well as the chair of the board of directors.

Through his community efforts, millions of dollars have been raised for central Illinois charities including the United Way of Central Illinois, Friends of St. John’s Hospital, the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Springfield, Goodwill Industries, Springfield Area Arts Council, Island Bay Yacht Club and the steering committee for the Sangamon County Community Foundation’s Young Philanthropists.

For 17 years, John Eck co-chaired two of the major fundraising efforts at SHG, including the Scholarship Scramble and the Mega Raffle. He is a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and has twice co-chaired the Blessed Sacrament Auction.

Eck and his wife, Lynn, have four children: Peter and Ryan, graduates of SHG, Ben, who will be a senior, and Cate who will be a freshman at SHG next year.
