The Office for Social Concerns (Ministries to Promote the Dignity of the Human Person) will be hosting a pro-life day of prayer and reflection on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. in Shively Hall at Villa Maria on Lake Springfield. The theme of the day will be "Come aside and rest awhile."

All priests, parish pro-life chairs and any other interested parish members are encouraged to attend. "The pro-life reps (or chairs) will be the diocesan to parish liaison for all pro-life issues," said newly-ordained Deacon Dave Sorrell, a keynote speaker at the event. "They will promote pro-life activities and see that important pro-life information is circulated around the parish."

Newly-ordained Deacon Dave Erdmann of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield, is also scheduled to speak.

"As I understand, this is the first time we have gathered together and we hope to make this an annual event," said Deacon Sorrell, from St. John Vianney Parish in Sherman. "Included in the day will be time to pray and reflect on human dignity and what it means to be pro-life."

Also included on the agenda will be the commissioning of all parish pro-life reps and time to review the pro-life packet that each representative will receive. Each parish pro-life representative receives a copy of the USCCB October parish packet and is asked to implement the diocesan pro-life manual in their parish and school.

Lunch will be provided. Those who plan to attend should make reservations (by Monday, Sept. 3) by calling (217) 698-8500, ext. 167 or e-mailing Deacon Sorrell at .
