ST. LOUIS - Sister Janet Folkl, CDP, has been elected general superior of the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence. Sister Martha Yang, CDP and Sister Monika Mrosek, CDP are the new general councilors. The three members of the leadership team reflect the community's international makeup, coming from the United States, South Korea and Germany, respectively. The team will take office Aug. 21 for a term of four years and reside at the congregation's generalate in Wakefield, R.I.

Born and raised in St. Louis and educated at St. Louis University, Sister Janet served the Divine Providence community as provincial of the St. Louis Province from 1995-2001. From 2002 to the present, she has served as the Marie de la Roche Province's novice director in Kingston, Mass. Sister Janet entered the Sisters of Divine Providence in 1960 and took final vows in 1968. She began ministry as a teacher in St. Louis Catholic schools, including North American Martyrs School, Ascension School and Mount Providence School. She also taught at St. John School in Imperial, Mo., and St. Mary and St. Mark School, serving Madison and Venice.

From 1987-1990, Sister Janet ministered as a pastoral associate at St. John LaLande Parish in Blues Springs, Mo. From 1991-94, she served as director of adult faith development for Seven Holy Founders Parish in St. Louis. She has journeyed with others as a spiritual director and has been involved in retreat ministry as well.

Sister Monika Mrosek, CDP, is a teacher from Germany who has worked in the Sisters of Divine Providence mission in Santo Domingo since 1995. Sister Martha Yang, CDP, is the former provincial superior of the Sisters of Divine Providence Korean Province.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence ministers in Germany, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, South Korea, and the United States. The Marie de la Roche Province, named for the co-founder of the congregation, represents the United States and the Caribbean.
