In an end-of-summer, start of the school year event, the third annual Catholic Camp-O-Ree for all Scouts in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois was held Sept. 5-7 at Camp Illinek on Lake Springfield. Camp Illinek is one of the camp properties of the Abraham Lincoln Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

Forty scouts and adult leaders from Cub packs, BSA troops, Girl Scout troops and Venturing crews participated, representing 10 different Scout units from three different Scout councils.

In addition to working on various religious awards, the group was challenged to a service project. Sister Angela Laquet, ACS, a Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting member from Taylorville, recommended thank-you cards to pastors, parochial vicars and retired priests. The group created over 100 cards that will be distributed in October on Priesthood Sunday.
