On Sept. 17, the Feast of the Stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi, the American Province of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George installed its new provincial administration under the guidance of Mother M. Maximilia Um FSGM.
The appointments were received from the General Motherhouse in Germany, and consist of the Provincial Superior, her Provincial Vicaress, four Provincial Councilors, a Provincial Secretary and a Provincial Procurator.
The sisters chosen will serve a term of six years, and are responsible for the 16 convents in the continental United States, a missionary region in Brazil, a missionary convent in Cuba and a convent in Rome, Italy.
Prior to her election, Mother M. Maximilia served as Vice-Chancellor for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois and Defender of the Bond on its Tribunal.
The American Province, St. Elizabeth, has its provincial house in Alton where its older sisters retire and its young sisters are trained in the Novitiate.
The province currently has 113 professed sisters, six novices and three postulants in the United States, Cuba and Rome, and 31 professed sisters and one novice in Brazil.
