Parish mission looks to ‘awaken’ faith

JACKSONVILLE — Our Saviour Parish will host a parish mission Sunday, March 22 through Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. Mass will also be said each morning of the mission at 7 a.m.. in the upper convent sanctuary.

Father Dennis Koopman, OFM, will lead the parish mission. Born and raised in northeastern Iowa, he graduated from Loras College in Dubuque. In 1964 Father Dennis was professed as a Franciscan of the Sacred Heart Province in St. Louis. After theological studies at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1970.

Following his attendance at the Vatican II Institute for Theological Renewal for priests in Menolo Park, Calif., in 1994, Father Dennis began his full-time ministry of preaching parish missions. He is a member of the Franciscan "Ministry of the Word" team for parish missions and holds a certificate in preaching from the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. Father Dennis lives with five other Franciscan friars at St. Gratian Friary in Countryside.

Refreshments will be served in the upper convent room after each service except on Monday evening when reconcillation will be offered. Babysitting will also be available. More information about the mission can be obtained by calling the parish office at (217) 245-6184.
