HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield was recently recognized for two separate aspects of hospital care. The hospital was named one of Illinois' 10 "Best Value Hospitals" and also received an award for cancer care.
HSHS St. John's was named a "Best Value" hospital for 2014, according to the Verras' Medical Value Index™ which is a rating system endorsed by the American Hospital Association. St. John's was compared to similar-sized institutions in Illinois through methodology that looked at national quality measures, readmission rates, mortality, morbidity, reduction in variation and resource consumption. Sources are from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services MedPR data, trended over three years.
St. John's will be honored at the American Hospital Association Signature Learning Series symposium entitled "Clinical Variation — the Last Frontier of Performance Improvement" on June 4 in Chicago.
Charles L. Lucore, MD, president and CEO of HSHS St. John's Hospital said the award was an honor. "We pride ourselves on providing high quality, safe and satisfying care to our patients as we continue to elevate health care in the community and region."
The hospital also received the 2015 Women's Choice Award® for America's Best Hospitals for Cancer Care. This distinction is based on research from publicly available data and patient recommendation and satisfaction scores, which are then weighted based on a national survey of women's priorities when selecting health care. More than 1,300 cancer care facilities were included in the analysis.
"We are honored to receive this award and continue to take pride in the many accomplishments that make HSHS St. John's Hospital the best place to receive care, the best place to work and the best place to practice medicine," said Lucore. "All of our colleagues are caregivers and this helps define the high quality, safe and very satisfying care that patients experience here."
