The Springfield Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) collected a record amount of money for designated projects during the last fiscal year, according to a report given at the annual DCCW Convention in September in Quincy.

A total of $13,110.47 was donated, with the bulk of the funds going to three projects selected by the DCCW board of directors, which consists of women from all seven deaneries of the diocese.

DCCW affiliates raised $3,035 for diocesan seminarian education. International Water for Life, which helps families in third-world countries improve their quality of life, received $7,833.18. Small Victories of Granite City, a pro-life ministry directed by Angela Michael of Highland, was given $1,359.61.

Also receiving donations were: Catholic Charities of the Springfield Diocese and Catholic Relief Services ($160 total); Refugee Women, assisting displaced or exiled women and children ($460.70); Help A Child, which trains village healthcare workers and offers immunizations and nutritional supplements for children ($174); and Madonna Plan, which helps women gain self-sufficiency through micro-businesses ($87.98).
