DALLAS — Eliot Kapitan, director of the diocesan Office for Worship and the Catechumenate, was recognized by the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions with the 2015 Alleluia Award at its annual convention Oct. 9 in Dallas.

According to the Federation, the award goes to one who "served … with distinction, and generously shared his skills, wisdom, and resources in order to promote sound liturgical practice and to advance the liturgical renewal." With that, the Federation continued, "There was little doubt that this year's recipient filled those criteria abundantly!"

Kapitan serves on the faculty of the diocesan Lay Ministry Formation Program and is a frequent presenter nationwide on liturgy, catechumenal ministry and adult learning. He also coordinated the Federation's Mystagogical Reflections Project.

Kapitan came to the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois in 1988. He previously served in parish and diocesan ministry in the Ft. Wayne-South Bend, Indiana and Austin, Texas dioceses and the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He and his wife, Jackie, are members of Little Flower Parish in Springfield.
