Over 100 people participated in a rosary rally Oct. 13 in Quincy to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparition at Fatima. QUINCY - Fatima was brought to Quincy during the "Public Square Rosary Rally" at Madison Park, 25th and Maine streets in Quincy, on Oct. 13. The rally commemorated the 90th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima's apparition to the three children Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia and the "Miracle of the Sun" witnessed by 70,000 people.
Over 2,500 cities across America held simultaneous rosary rallies to observe the anniversary. A rose was presented to Our Lady of Fatima at Fatima on behalf of each American city participating. The rallies were sponsored by the America Needs Fatima organization.
In Quincy, 111 people processed behind a statue of Our Lady of Fatima adorned with white roses and red carnations and carried by four bearers Each person in the block-long procession carried a candle, raising it high as the Ave Maria was sung between each of the 15 decades - the same as in Fatima.
One chaplet of the rosary each was lead by Father John Carberry, Father Louis Schlangen and Father Irenaeus Kimminau, OFM, three retired priesst of the diocese. The rosary captain was Janice E. Pohlman, a member of St. Anthony's Padua Church in Quincy.
