QUINCY - Quincy University's Our Lady of Angels Spirituality Center will host a retreat weekend Friday, Jan. 4 through Sunday, Jan. 6. "The Book of Revelation and Debunking the Left-Behind Series" will be presented by Father Bill Burton, OFM.
The retreat begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and will finish after lunch on Sunday. It includes meals, presentations, times of public prayer including Mass, and time for private prayer and reflection. Cost per person for the retreat is built so that participants may commute or stay overnight for the two nights. The cost for retreat and meals is $53 per person. The cost for retreat, meals, and room for overnight Friday and Saturday is $82 per person, whether single or double occupancy room.
"This retreat is geared to the Catholic or other person who would like to explore the Book of Revelation within prayer," said Deacon Leo Bistak, director of the QU Center for Faith and Spirituality. "The topic may look academic, but the reality is that in prayer we can meet the real intent of the author, not the frightening and untrue prospect of being left behind."
Father Burton has a master of divinity and a master's degree in theology from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He received his licentiate in Sacred Scripture (SSL) from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and a doctorate (STD) from the Pontifical Gregorian University, also in Rome. In 2002 he received his master's degree in higher education administration from Loyola University, Chicago. He has taught biblical studies at Quincy University and undergraduate courses at DePaul University in Chicago.
Father Burton is a member of Society of Biblical Literature, the College Theology Society and the Catholic Biblical Association. He is also a member of the board of trustees at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and on the board of the Catholic Coalition on Preaching.
