ST. MEINRAD, IND. — Deacon Sean Caveny, a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois and a student in the graduate theology prog r am at Sa i nt Meinrad Seminary a nd School of Theology, wa s recently awarded a master’s degree in pastoral theology.

Deacon Caveny, who was ordained June 16, 2012, serves at Holy Fami ly Parish in Litchfield. “The primary use of my degree is to help my parishioners in their journey of faith,” Deacon Caveny said. “I would also like to spread that message to the many youth in Catholic schools and universities that have heard the Good News but have yet to understand. The young members of the faith are at their most vulnerable and (I will do) whatever I can do to help them know that they are valued children of God.”

The mission of Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology is the initial and ongoing formation of priests, permanent deacons, and laity to minister together effectively in the service and evangelization of the Roman Catholic Church and the world. It is located in southern Indiana.
