AUBURN - Several churches in Auburn will observe the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity that is observed worldwide every year Jan. 18-25. This year, 2008, is the centennial observance.
"Every year the World Council of Churches and the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity determine a theme and provide aids for creating worship services," said Father Kevin Laughery, pastor of Holy Cross Parish, who is also the diocesan ecumenical officer.
This year's theme is "Pray without ceasing," he said.
Prayer services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Jan. 21-25. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, Jan. 21, with Father Kevin Laughery - "Christians Understanding One Another" at Cornerstone Community Church, 231 W. Van Buren, Auburn;
Tuesday, Jan. 22, with Pastor Dave Venter - "The Bible as a Vocabulary for Prayer" at Auburn Christian Church, 118 S. Apache, Auburn;
Wednesday, Jan. 23, with Pastor Nick Oyler - "The Bible's Prayer Book: The Psalms" at Auburn First Church of the Nazarene, 500 W. Monroe, Auburn;
Thursday, Jan. 24, with Pastor Mike Long - "The Lord's Prayer" at Auburn United Methodist Church, 14100 State Rt. 4, Auburn; and
Friday, Jan. 25, with Pastor Brian Hay - "Praying as Jesus Prayed" at St. Benedict Catholic Church (Holy Cross Parish), 126 E. Washington, Auburn.
