Each freshman received a Scripture verse and a title of identity in Christ on which to reflect. He or she proceeded to form a personal, reflective devotion based on the prompt. For example, John 15:5 states, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
“In the Bible, Jesus uses the image of branches and vines to show that our relationship with the Lord should be a close connection with him, the vine, the source of sustenance, of life, of strength,” Will J., a freshman said. “If branches are to live and bear fruit, they must completely depend on the vine, and even fruit-bearing branches are pruned so they will bear more fruit.”
The seniors received an open-ended prompt: “In Christ, I am … .” They had no other parameters or instructions. Their responses reflect their personal connection to our savior, Jesus Christ.
“In Christ, I am an instrument of peace,” said Abby T.
“In Christ, I am on the right path,” said Alex H.
“In Christ, I am saved from sin; I am loved,” said Chris N.
As a Catholic school, Routt focuses on prayer every day of the year. However, during the Lenten season, Routt calls for each of its students to take time to personally pray and reflect. Through the Lenten booklet, students undergo a personal journey to grow closer to the word of God and The Word, Jesus Christ.
“The Lenten booklet helps me pray during Lent,” said Anna R.
“The Lenten booklet gives guided reflections which help me to think,” said Andrew A., who also designed the cover.
“The Lenten booklet increases my spiritual connection,” said Kirby P.

Meredith Schilsky, a senior at Routt Catholic High School, is the president of the National Honor Society and the Projects Coordinator of the National English Honor Society. She participates in swim, bowling, the Ambassador Club, Student Council, and leadership outside of school. She will be attending Maryville University, majoring in English.
