SHG student ambassadors David Wasser, Robby Mosher, Elle Ward, Lauren Murphy, Josh Gossard and John Zimmerman recently visited children at St. John’s Hospital’s Carol Jo Vecchie Women and Children’s Center.

A group of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School student ambassadors recently took a field trip to visit  the critically ill children at St. John's Hospital's Carol Jo Vecchie Women and Children's Center.

Along with their moderator, Peggy Egizii, six students including Elle Ward, Josh Gossard, David Wasser, John Zimmerman, Robby Mosher and Lauren Murphy helped serve a lunch sponsored by the Springfield chapter of the Basket of Hope. Student ambassadors have helped Basket of Hope in the past by raising enough supplies to fill over 40 baskets destined for premature babies and their families.

The student ambassadors helped by serving cheese and pepperoni pizza, cookies, clear soda and juice boxes to the children. They also served sandwiches to the parents of the patients.

According to one worker at St. John's, parents rarely get a chance to eat while their child is ill, so it's just as important to serve them as it is to serve the child.

According to Mosher, the experience was very rewarding.

"It felt good going out into the community and helping those who need a little extra help," said Mosher.

Student ambassadors plan to team up with students from Christ the King School this spring to participate in a drive to send items to the solders in Iraq.
