ALTON - Marquette Catholic High School will present the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers April 17-19 in the MCHS Auditorium, 219 East Fourth St., in Alton. Doors open at 6 p.m., and performances begin at 7 each night.

The story takes place in Oregon in 1850, when Adam Pontipee travels to town and finds the ideal wife and marries her the same day. When he takes Millie home, she discovers he has six brothers who live in the same cabin. Millie decides to reform the mountain men and they become inspired to seek wives as well.

The show features the famous barn dance and fight scene, here choreographed by Gordon Cragg. Set designer Jerry Mueller has constructed a functional set in layers to accommodate the 19 scene changes. Music direction is provided by Michael Frazier with musical rehearsals conducted by Kathy Croxton and Craig Stark.

"Ideally the production team hopes to develop MCHS theater program further through improvement of the lighting system, microphones and the replacement of the stage curtain," said Sue Mueller, the show's director. "MCHS has so much talent and this show provided an opportunity for a large cast to participate in a live theater experience. I am amazed to see how well the cast adapted to a flexible schedule, and grasped the dance routines."
