cathedralrenewallogo.jpgWhen the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception closes for a year-long restoration and renewal, starting Oct. 1, Cathedral parishioners and others will not have to go much out of their way in order to attend a "Cathedral" Mass.
St. Katharine Drexel Parish, at its Sacred Heart Church, just four blocks east of the cathedral, at 722 S. 12th St., will host all Cathedral weekday Masses and most Cathedral weekend Masses.
The exception will be Cathedral's 5 p.m. Sunday Mass, which will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut. Attendance at the Cathedral for Sunday evening Mass is greater than Sacred Heart Church could accommodate.
Cathedral liturgical ministers and Cathedral priests will officiate at the Cathedral services, which are just being hosted by the other parishes.

In order to fit the Cathedral Masses into Sacred Heart's schedule, some Mass times were changed. The Saturday evening Cathedral Mass at Sacred Heart will be at 5:30 p.m. (Sacred Heart has its own 4 p.m. Mass) and there will not be a 7 a.m. Cathedral Mass on Sunday (Sacred Heart has its own 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass).
Cathedral parishioners are asked to place their parish envelopes in the collection baskets.
Cathedral confessions will be heard at Sacred Heart Church, using the Cathedral's regular schedule - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, 10 to 11 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
During the school year, Cathedral School students will have Mass once a week in the Cathedral School hall.
Cathedral weddings and funerals will be at scheduled between Sacred Heart and Blessed Sacrament, based on availability.
