Knights of Columbus Council #364, Springfield, recently hosted its first banquet for extraordinary ministers of holy Communion from the four parishes served by the council. The purpose of the banquet was to honor those individuals for their service to their respective parishes.

Approximately 200 individuals from Blessed Sacrament, Cathedral, Christ the King and St. Agnes parishes heard welcoming remarks from Grand Knight Gene Mitchell, enjoyed a buffet dinner and received certificates of appreciation from Deputy Grand Knight John Szerletich. Deacon Dave Erdmann, chaplain, from Blessed Sacrament Church, gave the blessing and made a few brief comments.

The event was coordinated by Mary Jane Bousum, facilities manager; Cliff Erwin, trustee; and Vern Copeland, financial secretary. The food was prepared by volunteers from the council and other council members provided support services.

Organizers say this was the first of several activities planned by Council #364 to recognize individuals who serve in ministries at their churches including choir members, ushers, lectors and others.
