LITCHFIELD - St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers were honored June 23 at a recognition dinner at which volunteers by increments of 100 hours of service were given special recognition. In 2007 auxiliary volunteers logged 5,215 hours of service, and junior volunteers logged 771 hours.

Proceeds from the Hospital Gift Shop, the auxiliary's largest fund-raising entity, enabled the auxiliary to donate $25,000 to purchase coloring books for children, and books for newborns.

Volunteers recognized for their hours of service include: Norma Culberson (11,000 hours), Sister Mary Flynn (9,000), Binky Ishmael (8,000), Naomi Schmidt (5,300), Lester Brown (3,900), Betty Lewis (2,600), Dorothy Stierwalt (1,900), Earline Michels (1,700), Lorine Johnson (1,500), Marilyn Knutson (1,400), Frances Dean, (1,200), Meribah Laughlin and Esther Watts (1,100) Stella Knight and Jeanette Matthews (1,000); Rose Tebbe (700); Wilma Grove, (600); Paulette Marten and Jim Wright (400); Mary K. Meyer, Donna Ray, Ellie Sneed, and Zonna Stratmeyer (300), Dorothy Hunt (200) and Sue Faas and Marilyn Hamblin, (100).

Four winners of $1,000 continuing medical education scholarships from the auxiliary were: Nicole Ginos, Coffeen; Mark Havera, Nokomis; Heath Laughlin, Litchfield; and Laura Starr, Carlinville.
