Catholic leaders of Boy Scout and Girl Scout units in the Springfield diocese are invited to help reorganize the Catholic Committee on Scouting. A meeting will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, from 1-3 p.m. at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Springfield.

The Catholic Committee on Scouting oversees a number of spiritual programs for youth and adults who are active in Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs, and volunteers are needed to provide leadership and guidance to revitalize these spiritual programs.

A renewed emphasis on participation in the religious emblems and recognitions programs available for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts is included in the reorganization efforts. Scouts as young as those in first grade can participate in age-appropriate faith programs. Faith programs for teenage Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are more in-depth and require trained adult moderators to assist them throughout the program.
