The Dominican Sisters of Springfield and Springfield College in Illinois-Benedictine University will sponsor a seminar on Sept. 4 and retreat on Sept. 5-6 on the "Art of Original Thinking." Both events will be held at the Chiara Center in Springfield and are open to the public.

Leading both the seminar and retreat will be Jan Phillips, award-winning author and speaker, who teaches individuals and organizations to ignite original thinking and capitalize on diverse strengths to achieve success while being a force for good in the world. Phillips is the author of Marry Your Muse, God Is at Eye Level, Divining the Body, Making Peace: One Woman's Journey Around the World and The Art of Original Thinking - The Making of a Thought Leader. She shows people how to access their wisdom, activate their own creative energy and communicate with passion and power. She has taught in over 20 countries and creates a multisensory experience, weaving humor, storytelling, imagery, and music to inspire and ignite insights for life-changing action.

"Jan will help us connect the dots between creativity, leadership and higher consciousness," said Sister Marilyn Jean Runkel, OP, lead organizer for the seminar and retreat.

The seminar will be held Thursday, Sept.  4 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Organizers say attendees at the seminar will "master the art of original thinking, tap into their authentic and creative leadership skills, discover why it literally ‘pays to be good' and experience the job of creating a better world." The seminar is intended for individuals from businesses and organizations interested in capitalizing on their diverse strengths, achieving maximum success and communicating with passionate energy. The early bird registration fee for the seminar is $50 before Aug. 18.

The retreat will be held on Friday, Sept. 5 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 6 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Chiara Center. The retreat is intended to create an environment using music, images and poetry to "tap into participants' wisdom, unleash imagination, activate creativity and create a culture of compassion and community." Registration for the retreat is $125 before Aug. 18.
