cathedral-ac.jpgcathedral-ac.jpgWhile students have been on break this summer, workers have been wiring Cathedral School in Springfield for air conditioning, assuring students will be more comfortable now that school has resumed, said Casey Wichmann, the school's development director.

Although the school had been without air conditioning since 1928, the restoration at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception made this the perfect time to take on and complete this task, said Wichmann.

"We have been blessed to have a few parish and school families come forward to purchase air conditioners for all the classrooms," said Wichmann, who has been in charge of fund-raising efforts for the project. "So now we only need to raise the money for the wiring and the cost of running the air conditioners.

"We will seek grant money to help offset the cost, and we will be organizing a parish and school-wide fund-raiser to raise money. Of course, donations can be made at any time," she said. "Thanks to the restoration the school has also received a new St. John Bosco room, a brand new library and new restrooms on the second floor for both the faculty and the students."

Before long, Cathedral students will be conducting science experiments in a new science lab. "We're still finalizing the space for that room," said Wichmann, who will be spear-heading the fund-raising for that project as well.
