Sing to the Lord is the new document on liturgical music approved in November 2007 by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, said Eliot Kapitan, director of the diocesan Office for Worship and the Catechumenate.

"This Study Day is not just for choir directors or musicians," said Kapitan. "Since Roman liturgy is fundamentally sung liturgy, everyone needs to know the role and place liturgical music has in our communal prayer."

Janco, the presenter for the study day, is a musician, composer and liturgist. He is director of the Rensselaer Program of Church Music and Liturgy. He holds an STL degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein; a master's degree in church music from Concordia University in Chicago, and a doctor of ministry degree from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

During the year, while serving as part-time director of the Rensselaer Program, Janco works full-time as liturgy resources specialist at World Library Publications in Franklin Park. He is a consultant to the Chicago Office for Divine Worship and serves on the Institute Team of the North American Forum on the Catechumenate.

"I am absolutely delighted that Steve Janco is returning to the diocese for this Sing to the Lord Study Day. He is an energetic presenter. He is well organized. He knows the church's liturgy," said Kapitan.

Cost for the study day will be $10 for individual registrations or $8 each for teams of five of more (all forms must be mailed together for discount). Late registration after Sept. 22 will be $15 per person.

For registration forms or for more information, contact Jan Griggs in the Office for Worship and the Catechumenate at (217) 698-8500, ext. 166, or e-mail or .

The study day is funded in part by contributions to the Annual Catholic Services Appeal.
