A pastel by Sheri Ramsey will be raffled off. Art for Darfur, a silent auction and raffle of artwork donated by Springfield area artists, will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Ramsey Barn near Glenarm, at 11400 Log Cabin Lane, (exit 88 off I-55 south). Tickets to the exhibit are $10. Proceeds from the fund-raiser will purchase solar stoves for refugee families from the Darfur genocide. The stoves will make it possible for refugees to prepare food within their camps, eliminating the need for families to seek wood for fuel outside the camps and risk death, kidnapping or rape by paramilitary bands.
Art for Darfur is sponsored by Land of Lincoln - Advocates for Darfur. A pastel by Sheri Ramsey, spokesperson for the group, will be the raffled artwork. There will be African food to enjoy and African music playing at intervals throughout the afternoon event.
Artists in addition to Ramsey who donated work for the auction include: Vicki Compton, director of the diocesan Office for the Missions; Jeff Garland, Cyd LaBonte, Linda Post-Lucas, Joan Beeman, Barb Drake, Mary Ann Anderson, Don Ramsey, Pam Miller, Chery Miller, Gerry Erley, Joan Barenfanger, Darren Miller, Toni Wrightsman, Delinda Chapman, Hazen Folse and Roland Folse and more.
