The Ministerial Alliance of Springfield and Vicinity and Praying for Revival All Year (PRAY) will sponsor a community Thanksgiving celebration at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Southeast High School, Ash and Taylor streets in Springfield. A musical program will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The theme will be "A Time to Thank God and Celebrate the Progress That Was Made Through the 2008 Year of Reconciliation." The speaker will be Abraham Lincoln Washington, senior pastor of the Rock of Our Salvation Church in Chicago.
During the celebration, a seven-minute video presentation will be shown highlighting events that took place during the 2008 Year of Reconciliation Solemn Assemblies, commemorating the 1908 Springfield race riots and promoting healing in the community.
A free-will offering will be taken and donated to the Springfield Overflow Shelter and Contact Ministries. In addition, all participants are asked to bring canned foods for the Central Illinois Food Bank.
