Father Christopher House, director of the diocesan Office for Vocations will be a member of a panel to discuss “Evolution, Creationism, Intelligent Design, and the Catholic, Judaistic, and Islamic Worldviews” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30 in Beata Hall at Benedictine University in Springfield, 1500 N. Fifth St.
The panel discussion is sponsored by the campus Interdisciplinary Committee. In addition to Father House, other panels members include Rabbi Barry Marks, Dr. Maryam Mostoufi, evolutionary biologist Darlene Snyder, and Benedictine University at Springfield science professor David Holland. Rick Rossetto, chair of the university’s Science Division, will moderate the event.
The nature of the panel discussion will be informative and exploratory, according to a university news release. The news release also quoted the late Pope John Paul II: “Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish.”
The event is free and open to the public. An audience question-and-answer session will be included.
