Negro to give Silver Cross recital

silver-cross-negro.jpgMadz Negro will present her Silver Cross piano recital on Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m. in Dominican Hall of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, 1200 W. Washington St. in Springfield. The daughter of Bill and Lori Negro of New Berlin, she is a sophomore at SHG.

Washington St. in Springfield. The daughter of Bill and Lori Negro of New Berlin, she is a sophomore at SHG.

Madz, a piano student of Sister Francis Mary Philipp, OP, has earned three Gold Cups and consistently received superior ratings in piano from the Illinois Federation of Music Clubs. In addition to playing piano she is also a first violinist with the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony. In her recital, she will be playing compositions by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Debussy and Bilotti. Madz will also perform a selection on the violin.

Along with her musical achievements, Madz is a student on the high honor roll and a member of Key Club and Blazer Spirit Club. She is also a member of the SHG cross country team which won state championships in 2007 and 2008. In 2006, she was on the Blessed Sacrament-St. Agnes cross country team, which also won the state championship. The State Journal-Register named Madz the 2007 Runner of the Year.

Also performing on the recital program will be vocalist Mariah Kaplan and four of Madz's siblings. Lydeah, Tommy, Leggy and Q. will play the piano, flute and cello.
