Sisters to celebrate profession of vows, reception into novitiate

On Aug. 15, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George will celebrate the profession of final and first vows and reception into the novitiate of several sisters. Bernadette).ALTON — The Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George will celebrate the profession of final and first vows and reception into the novitiate of several sisters during Mass at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, at St. Mary’s Church, 519 E. Fourth St.  Two temporary professed sisters will make final profession of vows, two novices will make first profession of vows, and two postulants will be received into the novitiate.

Archbishop George J. Lucas of Omaha, Neb., will be the main celebrant, joined by other bishops and priests.

Sisters who will make final profession are Sister M. Theresia Bexten, daughter of Ralph L.P. and Mary Jane A. Bexten of Freeburg, Mo.; and Sister M. Joan Henderson, daughter of Ivan M. and Jacqueline A. Henderson of Foley, Mo.

Novices who will make their first profession are Sister M. Renata Heilman, daughter of Gary L. and Linda S. Heilman of La Crosse, Wis.; and Sister M. Pauline Cuerbo, daughter of Robert L. and Mary T. Cuerbo of Old Chatham, N.Y.

Postulants who will be received into the novitiate and receive their new religious names are Emily Morse (Sister M. Bernadette), daughter of Kathryn Morse of Bancroft, Iowa, and Kenneth Morse of Clarion, Iowa; and Rachel Erb (Sister M. Isabella), daughter of Todd and Amy Erb of York, Pa.

A reception for the sisters be held from 2 to 5 p.m. in Suddes Hall, next to St. Mary’s Church at the corner of Henry Street.
