ALTON — Sister Damian Aycock, OSU, died July 6 at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton.

Ida Clotilde Aycock was born Sept. 27, 1922 in New Orleans, the daughter of Fernand Joseph Aycock Sr. and Palmyre Lasseigne Aycock. Of her three siblings, two survive: Sister Joan Marie Aycock, OSU, and Fernand Joseph Aycock Jr. She was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Aycock Madere.

Sister Damian attended elementary and secondary school at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. She entered the Ursulines in July 1942, making her vows in January 1945. She received a bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York and a master's degree in education at Loyola University of New Orleans. She served in various teaching and administrative assignments which took her to Springfield and Decatur; Dallas; Kirkwood and Crystal City, Mo.; New Orleans; as well as to Mexico for two terms of service. She made her last move from New Orleans to the Queen of Peace Healthcare and Retirement Center in Alton in the fall of 2008.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on July 14, at the Ursuline Convent Chapel in Alton, with Father Mark Dean, OMI, presiding. Burial was at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey.
